[KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 22] - In a landmark move for inclusive sports development, Special Olympics Malaysia and British performance sports brand FLEXpro have formalized a strategic partnership to support athletes with intellectual disabilities preparing for the 2025 Asia Pacific Special Olympics Badminton Championship.
The collaboration agreement, signed at Malaysia's Paralympic Centre of Sporting Excellence, will see FLEXpro provide specialized badminton equipment and athletic apparel to enhance training quality for competitors ahead of the September 16-21, 2025 tournament at Bukit Jalil Sports Complex.
Special Olympics Malaysia President Mr. Wengui Xin and Ms. Sun Yanhua, Deputy General Manager of FLEXpro (Guangzhou) Sports Technology Co., Ltd., sealed the partnership that aligns with both organizations' commitment to breaking barriers in sports participation.
"Special Olympics' core values of courage, sharing, and joy perfectly resonate with FLEXpro's mission to 'Connect Emotions Through Badminton, Unite the World Through Sport'," stated Sun during the signing ceremony. "Our four-decade expertise in professional sports gear will help these extraordinary athletes maximize their competitive potential."
The partnership strengthens FLEXpro's legacy in Malaysia, where the brand first established its Asian presence. Since 1982, the UK-originated company has become a key partner for international badminton development initiatives, including World Badminton Federation programs in emerging markets.
Special Olympics Malaysia currently engages thousands of athletes nationwide through year-round badminton, athletics, and swimming programs. This collaboration marks a strategic enhancement of their training infrastructure ahead of the regional championship, which is expected to draw participants from across Asia Pacific.
Wengui Xin emphasized: "This professional support system will significantly elevate our athletes' preparation standards, giving them crucial competitive advantages on the international stage while advancing social inclusion through sports."
The partnership underscores both organizations' shared vision for sustainable sports development, with FLEXpro committing to ongoing technical support and equipment innovations tailored for adaptive sports requirements.
